Job prit de nouveau la parole sous forme sentencieuse et dit:
وعاد ايوب ينطق بمثله فقال
Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,
-
2
Oh! que ne puis-je être comme aux mois du passé, Comme aux jours où Dieu me gardait,
يا ليتني كما في الشهور السالفة وكالايام التي حفظني الله فيها
Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

3
Quand sa lampe brillait sur ma tête, Et que sa lumière me guidait dans les ténèbres!
حين اضاء سراجه على راسي وبنوره سلكت الظلمة.
When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
-
4
Que ne suis-je comme aux jours de ma vigueur, Où Dieu veillait en ami sur ma tente,
كما كنت في ايام خريفي ورضا الله على خيمتي
As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
-
5
Quand le Tout Puissant était encore avec moi, Et que mes enfants m'entouraient;
والقدير بعد معي وحولي غلماني
When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
-
6
Quand mes pieds se baignaient dans la crème Et que le rocher répandait près de moi des ruisseaux d'huile!
اذ غسلت خطواتي باللبن والصخر سكب لي جداول زيت
When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

7
Si je sortais pour aller à la porte de la ville, Et si je me faisais préparer un siège dans la place,
حين كنت اخرج الى الباب في القرية واهيّئ في الساحة مجلسي.
When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

Les jeunes gens se retiraient à mon approche, Les vieillards se levaient et se tenaient debout.
رآني الغلمان فاختبأوا والاشياخ قاموا ووقفوا.
The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.

Les princes arrêtaient leurs discours, Et mettaient la main sur leur bouche;
العظماء امسكوا عن الكلام ووضعوا ايديهم على افواههم.
The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.

10
La voix des chefs se taisait, Et leur langue s'attachait à leur palais.
صوت الشرفاء اختفى ولصقت ألسنتهم باحناكهم.
The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

L'oreille qui m'entendait me disait heureux, L'oeil qui me voyait me rendait témoignage;
لان الاذن سمعت فطوّبتني والعين رأت فشهدت لي.
When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:

Car je sauvais le pauvre qui implorait du secours, Et l'orphelin qui manquait d'appui.
لاني انقذت المسكين المستغيث واليتيم ولا معين له.
Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

La bénédiction du malheureux venait sur moi; Je remplissais de joie le coeur de la veuve.
بركة الهالك حلت عليّ وجعلت قلب الارملة يسرّ.
The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

Je me revêtais de la justice et je lui servais de vêtement, J'avais ma droiture pour manteau et pour turban.
لبست البر فكساني. كجبّة وعمامة كان عدلي.
I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

J'étais l'oeil de l'aveugle Et le pied du boiteux.
كنت عيونا للعمي وارجلا للعرج.
I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.
-
16
J'étais le père des misérables, J'examinais la cause de l'inconnu;
اب انا للفقراء ودعوى لم اعرفها فحصت عنها.
I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.

Je brisais la mâchoire de l'injuste, Et j'arrachais de ses dents la proie.
هشمت اضراس الظالم ومن بين اسنانه خطفت الفريسة.
And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

Alors je disais: Je mourrai dans mon nid, Mes jours seront abondants comme le sable;
فقلت اني في وكري اسلم الروح ومثل السمندل اكثر اياما.
Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

L'eau pénétrera dans mes racines, La rosée passera la nuit sur mes branches;
أصلي كان منبسطا الى المياه والطل بات على اغصاني.
My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.

Ma gloire reverdira sans cesse, Et mon arc rajeunira dans ma main.
كرامتي بقيت حديثة عندي وقوسي تجددت في يدي.
My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

21
On m'écoutait et l'on restait dans l'attente, On gardait le silence devant mes conseils.
لي سمعوا وانتظروا ونصتوا عند مشورتي.
Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
-
22
Après mes discours, nul ne répliquait, Et ma parole était pour tous une bienfaisante rosée;
بعد كلامي لم يثنّوا وقولي قطر عليهم.
After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
-
23
Ils comptaient sur moi comme sur la pluie, Ils ouvraient la bouche comme pour une pluie du printemps.
وانتظروني مثل المطر وفغروا افواههم كما للمطر المتأخر.
And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

Je leur souriais quand ils perdaient courage, Et l'on ne pouvait chasser la sérénité de mon front.
ان ضحكت عليم لم يصدقوا ونور وجهي لم يعبسوا.
If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

25
J'aimais à aller vers eux, et je m'asseyais à leur tête; J'étais comme un roi au milieu d'une troupe, Comme un consolateur auprès des affligés.
كنت اختار طريقهم واجلس راسا واسكن كملك في جيش كمن يعزي النائحين
I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.
