What this tool does

A parallel Bible that sets the Korean Revised Version (1961) beside the King James Version, verse by verse, with Korean (Hangul) pronunciation over every English word. It is built for memorizing Scripture while learning English and Korean: read it, hear it, and say it aloud. You can also compare up to four of nine public-domain versions, including the Japanese Colloquial, Chinese Union (traditional and simplified), Russian Synodal, French Louis Segond 1910, German and Arabic Van Dyck.

How it is calculated

The text is served unchanged from the stored versions. The Hangul pronunciation is a transliteration of American pronunciations from the Carnegie Mellon Pronouncing Dictionary (CMUdict); names and archaic words missing from it are transliterated from phonemes generated by espeak-ng. Hangul cannot capture every English sound (r/l, f/p, th), so use it together with audio. Audio uses your browser's built-in speech synthesis (Korean and US English); the Android app uses the phone's speech engine. Memorization progress is stored only in this browser and never sent to the server. Review dates follow spaced repetition (an SM-2 variant): the better you remember a verse, the longer the interval.

  • Listen to today's verse on the home page, or pick a book and chapter from the list of 66 books
  • In the chapter view, press ▶ and choose a mode (English only, Korean only, EN→KO, KO→EN, EN→KO→EN, shadowing), repeats and speed
  • Read along with the Hangul pronunciation; tap archaic words (thee, thou, hath…) to see the modern word and meaning
  • Add verses you want to learn to your memory deck with ☆
  • On the Memorize page, practice today's cards with first-letter hints, cloze, word order and dictation, then rate them Again, Hard, Good or Easy

Things to know

  • Start with EN→KO one verse at a time, then try shadowing: repeat aloud during the pause after each English verse
  • Loop a short passage (A–B) several times to memorize it faster
  • The sleep timer stops playback after the time you set
  • The KJV is 17th-century English; use the archaic-word notes to learn the modern equivalents
  • Progress lives only in your browser, so export it to a file before switching devices

Frequently asked questions

Which versions are used?

The Korean Revised Version (1961) and the King James Version. Both are in the public domain, so the full text can be published.

How accurate is the Hangul pronunciation?

It is a mechanical transliteration of a US pronunciation dictionary and shows the approximate sound. Hangul does not distinguish r/l, f/p, v/b or th, so check with audio.

There is no sound.

Your browser or device needs Korean and English voices installed. On Android, download voice data under Settings → Text-to-speech. Also check that the device is not muted.

Where is my progress stored?

Only in this browser's local storage. It is not sent to the server, so it does not sync between devices; use Export and Import to move it.

Is there commentary?

No. Only the Bible text, notes on KJV archaic words and pronunciation.
