И отвечал Елифаз Феманитянин и сказал:
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

разве может человек доставлять пользу Богу? Разумный доставляет пользу себе самому.
Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?

3
Что за удовольствие Вседержителю, что ты праведен? И будет ли Ему выгода от того, что ты содержишь пути твои в непорочности?
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?

Неужели Он, боясь тебя, вступит с тобою в состязание, пойдет судиться с тобою?
Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?

5
Верно, злоба твоя велика, и беззакониям твоим нет конца.
Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?

6
Верно, ты брал залоги от братьев твоих ни за что и с полунагих снимал одежду.
For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

Утомленному жаждою не подавал воды напиться и голодному отказывал в хлебе;
Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.

8
а человеку сильному ты давал землю, и сановитый селился наней.
But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.

9
Вдов ты отсылал ни с чем и сиротоставлял с пустыми руками.
Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

За то вокруг тебя петли, и возмутил тебя неожиданный ужас,
Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;

или тьма, в которой ты ничего не видишь, и множество вод покрыло тебя.
Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.

12
Не превыше ли небес Бог? посмотри вверх на звезды, как они высоко!
Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!

13
И ты говоришь: что знает Бог? может ли Он судить сквозь мрак?
And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?

14
Облака – завеса Его, так что Он не видит, а ходит только по небесному кругу.
Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.

15
Неужели ты держишься пути древних, по которому шли люди беззаконные,
Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
-
16
которые преждевременно были истреблены, когда вода разлилась под основание их?
Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
-
17
Они говорили Богу: отойди от нас! и что сделает им Вседержитель?
Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?

18
А Он наполнял домы их добром. Но совет нечестивых будь далек отменя!
Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

19
Видели праведники и радовались, и непорочный смеялся им:
The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.

20
враг наш истреблен, а оставшееся после них пожрал огонь.
Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.

21
Сблизься же с Ним – и будешь спокоен; чрез это придет к тебе добро.
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.

22
Прими из уст Его закон и положи слова Его в сердце твое.
Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

Если ты обратишься к Вседержителю, то вновь устроишься, удалишь беззаконие от шатра твоего
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.

24
и будешь вменять в прах блестящий металл, и в камни потоков – золото Офирское.
Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

25
И будет Вседержитель твоим золотом и блестящим серебром у тебя,
Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.

26
ибо тогда будешь радоваться о Вседержителе и поднимешь к Богу лице твое.
For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.

27
Помолишься Ему, и Он услышит тебя, и ты исполнишь обеты твои.
Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.

28
Положишь намерение, и оно состоится у тебя, и над путями твоими будет сиять свет.
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

29
Когда кто уничижен будет, ты скажешь: возвышение! иОн спасет поникшего лицем,
When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.

30
избавит и небезвинного, и он спасется чистотою рук твоих.
He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
