Paroles du roi Lemuel. Sentences par lesquelles sa mère l'instruisit.
كلام لموئيل ملك مسّا. علّمته اياه امه.
The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

Que te dirai-je, mon fils? que te dirai-je, fils de mes entrailles? Que te dirai-je, mon fils, objet de mes voeux?
ماذا يا ابني ثم ماذا يا ابن رحمي ثم ماذا يا ابن نذوري ـــ
What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

Ne livre pas ta vigueur aux femmes, Et tes voies à celles qui perdent les rois.
لا تعطي حيلك للنساء ولا طرقك لمهلكات الملوك.
Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

Ce n'est point aux rois, Lemuel, Ce n'est point aux rois de boire du vin, Ni aux princes de rechercher des liqueurs fortes,
ليس للملوك يا لموئيل ليس للملوك ان يشربوا خمرا ولا للعظماء المسكر.
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

De peur qu'en buvant ils n'oublient la loi, Et ne méconnaissent les droits de tous les malheureux.
لئلا يشربوا وينسوا المفروض ويغيّروا حجة كل بني المذلة.
Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

Donnez des liqueurs fortes à celui qui périt, Et du vin à celui qui a l'amertume dans l'âme;
اعطوا مسكرا لهالك وخمرا لمرّي النفس.
Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

Qu'il boive et oublie sa pauvreté, Et qu'il ne se souvienne plus de ses peines.
يشرب وينسى فقره ولا يذكر تعبه بعد
Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

Ouvre ta bouche pour le muet, Pour la cause de tous les délaissés.
افتح فمك لاجل الاخرس في دعوى كل يتيم.
Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

Ouvre ta bouche, juge avec justice, Et défends le malheureux et l'indigent.
افتح فمك. اقض بالعدل وحام عن الفقير والمسكين
Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

Qui peut trouver une femme vertueuse? Elle a bien plus de valeur que les perles.
امرأة فاضلة من يجدها لان ثمنها يفوق اللآلئ.
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

Le coeur de son mari a confiance en elle, Et les produits ne lui feront pas défaut.
بها يثق قلب زوجها فلا يحتاج الى غنيمة.
The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

Elle lui fait du bien, et non du mal, Tous les jours de sa vie.
تصنع له خيرا لا شرا كل ايام حياتها.
She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

Elle se procure de la laine et du lin, Et travaille d'une main joyeuse.
تطلب صوفا وكتانا وتشتغل بيدين راضيتين.
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

Elle est comme un navire marchand, Elle amène son pain de loin.
هي كسفن التاجر. تجلب طعامها من بعيد.
She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

Elle se lève lorsqu'il est encore nuit, Et elle donne la nourriture à sa maison Et la tâche à ses servantes.
وتقوم اذ الليل بعد وتعطي اكلا لاهل بيتها وفريضة لفتياتها.
She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

Elle pense à un champ, et elle l'acquiert; Du fruit de son travail elle plante une vigne.
تتأمل حقلا فتأخذه وبثمر يديها تغرس كرما.
She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

Elle ceint de force ses reins, Et elle affermit ses bras.
تنطّق حقويها بالقوة وتشدد ذراعيها.
She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

Elle sent que ce qu'elle gagne est bon; Sa lampe ne s'éteint point pendant la nuit.
تشعر ان تجارتها جيدة. سراجها لا ينطفئ في الليل.
She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

Elle met la main à la quenouille, Et ses doigts tiennent le fuseau.
تمد يديها الى المغزل وتمسك كفّاها بالفلكة.
She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

Elle tend la main au malheureux, Elle tend la main à l'indigent.
تبسط كفيها للفقير وتمد يديها الى المسكين.
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

Elle ne craint pas la neige pour sa maison, Car toute sa maison est vêtue de cramoisi.
لا تخشى على بيتها من الثلج لان كل اهل بيتها لابسون حللا.
She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

Elle se fait des couvertures, Elle a des vêtements de fin lin et de pourpre.
تعمل لنفسها موشيات. لبسها بوص وارجوان.
She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

Son mari est considéré aux portes, Lorsqu'il siège avec les anciens du pays.
زوجها معروف في الابواب حين يجلس بين مشايخ الارض.
Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

Elle fait des chemises, et les vend, Et elle livre des ceintures au marchand.
تصنع قمصانا وتبيعها وتعرض مناطق على الكنعاني.
She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

Elle est revêtue de force et de gloire, Et elle se rit de l'avenir.
العزّ والبهاء لباسها وتضحك على الزمن الآتي.
Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

Elle ouvre la bouche avec sagesse, Et des instructions aimables sont sur sa langue.
تفتح فمها بالحكمة وفي لسانها سنّة المعروف.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

Elle veille sur ce qui se passe dans sa maison, Et elle ne mange pas le pain de paresse.
تراقب طرق اهل بيتها ولا تأكل خبز الكسل.
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

Ses fils se lèvent, et la disent heureuse; Son mari se lève, et lui donne des louanges:
يقوم اولادها ويطوّبونها. زوجها ايضا فيمدحها.
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

Plusieurs filles ont une conduite vertueuse; Mais toi, tu les surpasses toutes.
بنات كثيرات عملن فضلا اما انت ففقت عليهنّ جميعا.
Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

La grâce est trompeuse, et la beauté est vaine; La femme qui craint l'Éternel est celle qui sera louée.
الحسن غش والجمال باطل. اما المرأة المتقية الرب فهي تمدح.
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

Récompensez-la du fruit de son travail, Et qu'aux portes ses oeuvres la louent.
اعطوها من ثمر يديها ولتمدحها اعمالها في الابواب
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
