My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
يا ابني احفظ كلامي واذخر وصاياي عندك.

Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
احفظ وصاياي فتحيا وشريعتي كحدقة عينك.

Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
اربطها على اصابعك اكتبها على لوح قلبك.

Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
قل للحكمة انت اختي وادع الفهم ذا قرابة.

That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
لتحفظك من المرأة الاجنبية من الغريبة الملقة بكلامها

For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
لاني من كوة بيتي من وراء شباكي تطلعت
-

And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
فرايت بين الجهال لاحظت بين البنين غلاما عديم الفهم
-

Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,
عابرا في الشارع عند زاويتها وصاعدا في طريق بيتها
-

In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:
في العشاء في مساء اليوم في حدقة الليل والظلام.

And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtle of heart.
واذ بامرأة استقبلته في زي زانية وخبيثة القلب.

(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
صخّابة هي وجامحة. في بيتها لا تستقر قدماها.

Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)
تارة في الخارج واخرى في الشوارع. وعند كل زاوية تكمن.

So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
فامسكته وقبّلته. اوقحت وجهها وقالت له
-
14
I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.
عليّ ذبائح السلامة. اليوم اوفيت نذوري.

Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
فلذلك خرجت للقائك لاطلب وجهك حتى اجدك.

I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
بالديباج فرشت سريري بموشّى كتان من مصر.

I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
عطرت فراشي بمرّ وعود وقرفة.

Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.
هلم نرتو ودّا الى الصباح. نتلذذ بالحب.

For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:
لان الرجل ليس في البيت. ذهب في طريق بعيدة.

He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.
اخذ صرّة الفضة بيده. يوم الهلال ياتي الى بيته.

With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
اغوته بكثرة فنونها بملث شفتيها طوحته.

He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
ذهب وراءها لوقته كثور يذهب الى الذبح او كالغبي الى قيد القصاص

Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.
حتى يشق سهم كبده. كطير يسرع الى الفخ ولا يدري انه لنفسه

Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
والآن ايها الابناء اسمعوا لي واصغوا لكلمات فمي.

Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
لا يمل قلبك الى طرقها ولا تشرد في مسالكها.

For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
لانها طرحت كثيرين جرحى وكل قتلاها اقوياء.

Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
طرق الهاوية بيتها هابطة الى خدور الموت
